I love to go a-wandering off the beaten track,
and as I go, I love to sing, my knapsack on my back.
Val-di-ree, Val-di-rah,
Val-di-ree, Val-di-rah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Val-di-ree, Val-di-rah,
My knapsack on my back.

Tubal Cain Hike with Ray Flagg

On a Tuesday, Ray Flagg and I hiked up the Tubal Cain trail. We left our house, Ray driving his big red truck, at 5:00 am. Awfully early.

We started hiking at the trailhead at 7 am. It was a cool, partly cloudy day, ideal for hiking. We were in a good mood because it was the first hike of the year for both of us.

The rhododendrons were in full bloom. We walked through aisles of pink blossoms, especially in the lower part of the trail.

We walked at a leisurely pace (Ray's heart needed lots of rests) and arrived at the trail junction where there is a mine at 10:30. I walked back in the mine a short ways. It's dark in there.

We had lunch and started out. Here's a photo of me at the wilderness boundary.

Crossing the creek just before the end of the trail. We got back to the truck at about 2 pm, back home about 4 pm.
